Celebrities Who Bask in Solar Energy
While many of us like to shun celebrities for their mainstream attention and creation of trends, there is one trend that we can certainly applaud them for: environmental awareness. It’s easy to see that green is the way to go in the celebrity world of Hollywood. In the past decade, many celebrities have found ways to incorporate environmental awareness into their daily lives. Los Angeles and San Diego solar energy has been creating a lot of media buzz lately, and here are some of the celebrities who are responsible for its success. A few years ago, Edward Norton teamed up with BP to begin the BP Solar Neighbors Program. Every time a celebrity purchases a home solar system from BP, the energy company donates the same equipment to a low-income family in Los Angeles. Plenty of celebrities have signed up, and many families in Los Angeles have benefited from the combined generosity of the energy mogul and celebrity involvement. Long time actress Daryl Hannah is touted for being one of the most solar-savvy celebs of all. Her home in the Rockies is 100% off the grid. She spent a great deal of time in camps as a child, which inspired her to love and appreciate nature in a way that is hard to find among celebrities. She is the perfect example of how New York, Las Vegas, and San Diego residential solar changes have the ability to make an impact across the globe. Musician Jackson Browne is another example of the best ways to spend your money. He has a Malibu ranch home that functions completely off grid as well. It was built in a way that keeps it cool year-round, which significantly lowers energy use. Larry Hagman, the start of Dallas, has the largest amount of solar panels in once residence on his 25,000 square foot residence. Not only is he keeping the earth alive and kicking, but his system supplies power to five nearby lower income homes. His yearly energy costs average about $13. There are quite a few other celebrities that enjoy basking in the savings of the sun. People are going solar in San Diego, Los Angeles, and even somewhat remote areas of the country thanks to the awareness generated by a few activist-celebs.
